Self-awareness for Beginners: Easy Practices to Start Now

When I first started exploring mindfulness, I felt overwhelmed by the idea of meditating for hours or completely changing my routine. But I quickly learned that mindfulness doesn’t have to be complicated—it’s about small, intentional steps that fit into your life. If you’re new to mindfulness, here are some easy practices to get started.

Begin with mindful breathing. This simple exercise requires no special equipment or preparation. Just sit comfortably, close your eyes, and focus on your breath. Notice the sensation of the air entering and leaving your body. Even one minute of mindful breathing can create a sense of calm.

Mindful walking is another accessible practice. On your next walk, slow down and pay attention to the movement of your feet, the rhythm of your steps, and the sensations of the ground beneath you. This turns an ordinary activity into an opportunity for presence.
